A ROW between Leigh Town Council and those refurbishing the Grand Hotel over rubbish left outside appears to have been resolved.

Former Towie star, Mick Norcross, is transforming the building into a boutique hotel and spa, but drew criticism after the hotel’s Twitter account tweeted how surprised they were to have been asked to clean up rubbish which had accumulated between the hoardings and outer wall.

Leigh Town Council had asked Mr Norcross to tidy the rubbish and the majority of residents backed the council's stance.

Speaking at a town council meeting last Thursday, Carole Mulroney, a local councillor, said: “I’ve been dealing with the borough council on this all week and got an email from Mr Norcross yesterday to say it had been cleared, so I assume he went and got advice.”

Town clerk Paul Beckerson said the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act required property owners to keep their properties clear, though councillor Pat Holden said there was a “get-out clause” if properties were undergoing work. “But there isn’t any work going on,”

added councillor Mulroney.

The Grand was completed in 1899 but was last open for business in 2008.

Mr Norcross announced he would be redeveloping the site in 2011.
