POLICE closed part of the Dartford crossing this morning after a driver was taken ill.

Drivers are being warned of long delays on the M25 and the A282 following the accident just after 8am. 

The man has been taken to hospital.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police would like to thank motorists for their patience following delays on the Dartford River Crossing this morning.

"Officers had to close part of the bridge just after 8am today.

"This was after a man was taken ill at the wheel of a vehicle.

"The M25 was closed between junction 31 and the bridge. The man has been taken to hospital and the motorway reopened at around 9.30am."
