UNHAPPY residents have officially lodged their disapproval of plans for a lap dancing club in Benfleet.

The public consultation on the proposal for the Galore club at the Manor Trading Estate closed on Friday.

By 5pm, a total of 35 objections had been received, mostly from residents, but nearby businesses have also previously raised concerns.

Castle Point Council will now decide whether to licence the club, which is set to open every night of the week between 8pm and 5am.

Licensing solicitor and caseworker Andrew Smith said: “The application for the sexual entertainments venue at Brunel Road will now be decided by the licensing sub committee.

“This public hearing which will take place within the next 21 days and representations will be made to the committee on behalf of both the applicant and any objectors.

“All objections and any other relevant details in relation to the application for the sexual entertainments venue and premises licence will be disclosed before the hearing.”

Ukip’s Ron Hurrell, who is a St Peter’s ward councillor, hopes to be able to speak at the meeting.

He said: “I am opposed. The applications are considered from a legal point of viewand the law is not concerned with morality.

“I will ask if the police are capable of policing it.

“They are already stretched beyond their limits and there is talk about future cuts.”

Applicant G&K Construction, which is based at the Manor Trading Estate, has also applied to be able to serve alcohol between 8pm and 4.30am, with an extra hour for bank holidays.

Nearby businesses include a children’s play centre, a nursery and a dance school have classes until 9.30pm.

The council will consider public safety, the prevention of crime, disorder and public nuisance and the protection of children.
