POLICE will crack down on street racing around Lakeside this weekend.

Police authorised a dispersal order to be placed in a bid to reduce vehicle based anti-social behaviour and street racing in vehicles.

The dispersal order means police officers will be able to move people on if they are causing anti-social behaviour within the area defined by the order.

Chief Inspector Leigh Norris, District Commander for Thurrock, said: "Street racing poses not only a danger to other road users but also the surrounding road networks and to those using the footpaths and local leisure facilities.

“There have been complaints from local residents about the noise pollution and local businesses within the Lakeside area have been forced to close early to prevent incidents of crime and disorder.

“This is just one way we are trying to tackle this issue and I have been working extensively with local businesses, partner agencies and the community to address these issues.

The dispersal order is set out under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. It will cover the geographical area on the attached map and will run from 4pm on Saturday, December 27 and will end at 6am on Sunday, December 28.
