DOG walker-turned-singer Hollie Barrie was a hit on BBC 1 show the Voice.

Hollie, 30, from Billericay, had the pick of all four judges – Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora and Ricky Wilson – after impressing with her rendition of Kesha and Pitbull’s Timber.

All of them wanted her on their team, but she chose producer and performer Will.i.am.

She will now go through to the “Battle” stage, where she will sing against another teammate to see whomakes the next round.

Hollie, who was born in Rochford, said: “We’ll just have to have it out, I guess, and what will be, will be.

“It’s not that I’m not competitive, but as long as I’m proud of my performance, then I’m happy with whatever the outcome is. I guess that comes a bit with age.”

Hollie’s audition, which was broadcast on Saturday night, was filmed in October.

She met up with Will.i.am a month later with the rest of his team to discuss their plans for the show.

She admits she was nervous ahead of the audition.

She said: “I’ve never known nerves like it before I went on stage I was worried I’d forget my lines or even be able to produce a vocal.

“The coach’s comments were really lovely to hear though and the crowd made such a difference – you really felt like they were pulling for you.

“Rita Ora made a really good pitch for me and the crowd were cheering for me to choose her, but I went with my gut and chose Will.

“I was asked before the show who I’d choose if I had the option of all four and I really admire what Will does to help people in his community, plus I’ve always liked his music.”

Hollie, a professional dogwalker and animal presenter by trade, is no stranger to performing.

She sang for Princes Charles when she was 18, after completing a Princes Trust music course when she was living in Wales.

She said: “The organisers asked if I could practice a few songs for a show, but they didn’t tell me what it was.

“I turned up on the day – and in swooped a helicopter and Prince Charles got out.

“He was so warming though.

Apparently he told someone afterwards I was ‘really talented and someone has to discover her’– hopefully this is that time.”

Hollie has also made a series of radio appearances, including on Radio 1, and has performed at festivals as she tried to launch her career as a singer-songwriter.

Hollie’s success comes hot on the heels of fellow Billericay girl Lauren Platt’s run to the semifinal of X Factor.
