A CANCER patient has donated equipment to a volunteer emergency response service.

Canvey First Responders were given a donation from FoundationPD, set up by dad-of-two Peter Daintree.

Peter, 33, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2012 and had a leg amputated later that year.

He established FoundationPD to help others fighting cancer, and reviews each application for help personally.

The First Responders were given a sat nav and Co-ordinator Terry Frost and volunteers Chris Own, Mick Allwood and Lyndon Hunt met with Peter.

Mr Frost said: “Having a sat nav in this day and age is fundamental for any community first responder group.

“Unfortunately groups aren’t supplied with one as part of their standard issue kit, so many have to use basic maps. With roads changing on a regular basis, this new unit will automatically update any new changes.

“Without Peter or other members of our community who donate money to us, we would not be able to continue.

“All of their help and support is very much appreciated.”

First responders are dispatched by the East of England Ambulance Service to people in life-threatening situations, within their community.

They are normally able to reach a patient within minutes and can start providing care while ambulance staff are on their way to the scene.

FoundationPD runs events such as football matches, raffles and auctions to help raise funds.
