An overturned car caused long queues for motorists on the A13 this morning.

The accident, on the London-bound carriageway near Stanford-le-Hope, took place at about 6.20am.

Traffic queued back as far as Pitsea before the vehicle was recovered at about 8am.

Ambulance crews attended the scene and treated a man in his 50s, who was taken to Basildon Hospital.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "His injuries are not believed to be life threatening."
