THE longest-serving employee has been working at the club for almost 58 years and he says he can’t wait for Blues to take to the Wembley turf.

Ray Davy, 83, has been working at Southend United since August 1955 and has seen a number of highs and lows at the club. He will be going to Wembley with 30,000 fellow supporters and three generations of his family.

Ray, who works in market operations and the community work department at the club, will be going to the match with his son Ray Davy Jr, who previously worked in the kit department, and his grandson Jamie who previously worked on matchdays - patrolling the car park at Roots Hall.

Ray, from Regency Green, Southend said: “I love Southend United and that is pretty obvious because of the length of time I have been here. We are a family club and it has been wonderful to work with my son and grandson for a period here.

“This will be a great day for Southend as a town, The supporters haven’t often been given much to cheer about but they are an integral part of the club. I am sure all this positive energy will give the town a boost. For the boys to get to Wembley is a terrific achievement and we will be roaring the team home.”

Ray will be watching the game from the VIP Bobby Moore suite at Wembley as he was the former chairman of the England Supporter’s Club.

“It’s very exciting. I simply can’t wait.”
