A CAR crashed through a shop window for the second time in five years, injuring a member of staff inside.

Bosses at Hairline Hair, in Kiln Road, Hadleigh, is counting the cost after its front window was destroyed.

Helen Laver, 51, her daughter Chloe Brookes who works in the salon and three customers were in the salon at the time.

The crash happened at about 10am this morning.

“It was worse this time as we were in the shop,” Mrs Laver said.

“It was horrible.

“My daughter was sitting by the window while she was blow drying her hair.

“Some of the bricks landed on her ankle.

“Thankfully it wasn’t broken but it was badly bruised.”

The front wall of the salon was smashed, with bits of brick coming into the salon and littering the floor.

Thankfully, the car itself did not come through the wall into the salon.

Mrs Laver, who has run the salon for seven years with her business partner Angela Window, said: “It is a horrible noise when the car came through the wall.

“It was such a shock.

“It could have been much worse, as someone could have been standing by the window when it happened.

“But it was horrible that my daughter got hurt.

“That is what set me off.

“It really upset me.”

In 2011, the salon had to undergo a refurbishment of more than £10,000 after a Fiat Coupe, alleged to have been travelling at 100mph, smashed into the front of it.

The salon was forced to open in a nearby empty cafe while the damage was repaired.

The work took three months to complete as the inside of the shop was destroyed, including the mirrors, hairdryers, sinks and chairs.

Luckily, their insurers footed the bill for the repairs.

Surveyors are due to assess the building for damage on Friday in the latest accident.

The salon had to remain closed yesterday and this morning.

“We are worried that it might happen again,” she added.

“When it was the once, it wasn’t so bad but now it has happened twice we are concerned.

“The salon is on a corner, but I wouldn’t say it is a particularly tight bend.

“We are hoping that it isn’t true that things happen in threes. Something definitely needs to be done to stop it from happening.

“We used to have some bollards outside the salon, but these were knocked over the first time a car crashed into the salon and haven’t been replaced.”
