IT’S been pleasing to have taken six points from our last two games but I’m being greedy now and I want to make it nine when we go to York City on Saturday.

Last season funnily enough we also faced Cheltenham, York and Portsmouth in the space of seven days and managed to take seven points.

I would have taken that at the start of these run of games but we will be looking for more than a point from the match at the weekend.

Tuesday night was another good result at Cheltenham but we should have won by more than 1-0.

I’m just hoping that at some stage this season there is actually going to be a game where I can be relaxed in the closing stages.

I don’t expect to be smoking cigars or anything like that but I don’t want to start having to dye my hair either so we need to start killing teams off.

The sending off of Cheltenham midfielder Jason Taylor obviously helped us and they were playing with 10 men for the whole of the second half.

I’ve watched the incident again and it was like watching the old wrestler Mick McManus with the way he went in to Conor Clifford with a flying forearm smash.

It was a definite red card and you have to say it was foolish of their lad.

Funnily enough before the game started he was being very loud and boisterous.

The changing rooms are very close together at Whaddon Road and we could hear everything he was saying, which certainly very complimentary about us.

When it happened I got our young group together and told them the only reason he was shouting from the roof-tops was fear.

He knew what we were capable of and how we could play.

He then lost his cool but Cheltenham really threw their bodies in the way of everything after he went off, like you would expect from a Mark Yates team, and it was still a very good win for us.

PERFECT WAY FOR CONOR CLIFFORD TO REACT

CONOR Clifford reacted in the best way possible to being left out of the side by making a big impression after coming at Cheltenham Town.

Conor’s a young lad and he may be slightly dropped off in the second half of our game against Oxford United.

It was a harsh drop but we have real competition for places in there and I wanted to get Gary Deegan’s influence on the team.

Deegan has done well but Conor was given another chance after an injury to Ryan Leonard and he certainly took it.

He kept his cool in the incident for Jason Taylor’s red card and then popped up to score a good goal.

We’ve challenged the midfielders to hit the back of the net more often this season and Conor has certainly taken that on board.

DISAPPOINTMENT AT RYAN LEONARD'S INJURY

>THE only disappointing side of the win at Cheltenham was the injury sustained by Ryan Leonard.

Lenny said he just suddenly felt a sharp pain and it’s strange because he felt no build up to it at all.

He’s a fit lad and I always like to try and find out what causes an injury.

With that in mind, I actually read this week that a recent survey suggest that 80 per cent of soft tissue injuries are down to stress.

I only had one soft tissue injury throughout my own career and it happened when I was going through a divorce.

We could therefore have to start taking an ever closer look at the psychological side of the players’ approach to the game.

It’s certainly something we will be looking in to further.

However, Cian Bolger should be back training today and hopefully Barry Corr will be available for Saturday’s game too after the whiplash type injury he had which made him miss out on Tuesday.

COMING UP AGAINST ANTHONY STRAKER THIS WEEKEND

WE’RE up against an old friend in Anthony Straker at York City this weekend and I’m looking forward to it.

It will be interesting to get his views on our new look team because I think we’re quite different now to the side he played in.

However, I think I’ll only be asking for his opinion if we win!
