CONCORD Rangers' impressive recent form came to an end as they were beaten 3-1 at rivals Bishop’s Stortford.

The Beach Boys have won a host of admirers in the past two months. Aside from a 1-0 defeat to Mansfield Town in the FA Cup, Danny Cowley’s side has only tasted defeat once in the past 15 games.

Goals from former Canvey Island man Sheldon Sellears, Anthony Church and James Walker sealed the points for struggling Stortford, with Tony Stokes grabbing a late consolation for the away side.

The game could have gone very differently if Lewis Taaffe had found the back of the net in the opening stages.

Sam Collins’ free-kick was flicked on by the striker but he could only watch as it flicked the post on the way out.

Up the other end, Sellears free-kick was prodded goalwards by Donovan Simmonds but the ball was cleared off the goal line.

Vickers denied Sellears but the Arsenal loan goalkeeper was at fault for the opening goal.

Sellears free-kick was missed by everyone and, as Vickers went to claim, he couldn’t hold the ball and the ball found the net.

The second goal came in controversial circumstances. Sellears corner found Adam Bailey-Dennis and Church flicked the ball home, with Concord believing the man was offside when he got the touch.

The Beach Boys opportunities were limited, with Alex Woodyard shooting wide from 25 yards one of few second half chances.

Stokes saw an effort scrambled clear before Walker completed the scoring for the hosts, spinning and shooting home.

Stokes did score after a goalmouth scramble resulted in David Gregory making two superb saves but failing to keep the ball away from the striker.
