SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown heaped praise on goalkeeper Daniel Bentley after the goalkeeper won a trio of awards.

The shot-stopper was voted fans player of the year, players’ player of the year and community player of the year.

And Brown felt Bentley was a worthy winner.

“The bottom line is it’s all about performances when it comes to awards and Daniel Bentley has been performing unbelievably well for us,” said Brown.

“What pleased me with players’ player was that nine different players got votes and that shows you’ve had a good season.

“Dan must have got about 50 per cent of the votes though and you get players’ player for being good around the training ground, for applying yourselves and being good in the dressing room so it’s a good one to win.”

Blues’ supporters also selected Bentley as their player of the year with Barry Corr in second and Michael Timlin third.

However, the Echo run goal of the season award was won by David Worrall for his free-kick at Bury last Tuesday.
