SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown made it a weekend to remember by completing the London Marathon on Sunday.

Fresh from his side’s 1-0 win against Luton Town, Brown finished the 26.2 mile run across the capital in a time of four hours, 37 minutes.

And Brown was thrilled to have it to the finishing line.

“After the way we won against Luton I was hoping I would be able to float round but it didn’t quite work out that way,” said the Blues boss.

“I wasn’t ever really too bothered about the time but I got to 21 miles and had to walk.

“After that, I walked and jogged the rest of the way but it was a brilliant feeling to finish and it’s was something really special to be a part of too.

“But now it’s back to focusing on the football and thankfully I can still kind of move too.”

Brown took part in the London Marathon to raise funds for the Sparks Charity and the Amy May Trust.

Sparks work to improve of health of babies, children and pregnant women by funding medical research, while the Amy May Trust generates funds for the treatment of Blues chairman Ron Martin’s niece who remains in hospital after suffering a catastrophic anaphylaxis reaction to a single bite of food in April 2014.
