SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown believes Wycombe Wanderers will be formidable opposition for his side at Wembley on Saturday.

The Chairboys have triumphed in their last three games.

And Brown knows Gareth Ainsworth will have them fired up for the play-off final.

“We’ve played Wycombe twice and we’ve watched them a few times, including both games in the play-offs so we know what to expect,” said the Blues boss.

“I’m sure they will say the same about us but there are one of two things you can try to change.

“But whatever we do, Wycombe are going to be formidable opposition because they always keep going, no matter what.”

Brown took his Shrimpers squad to Wembley yesterday before they stay overnight in a hotel ahead of the game.

And the Blues boss is happy with the way his side have prepared for their season defining clash.

“We had three or four days or rest after the semi-final with Stevenage before going back onto the training ground,” said Brown.

“We’ve gone through things and we’re as prepared as we could be.

“The stakes are high but bring it on and may the best team win.”

If the game is level at the end of 90 minutes then extra time and then a penalty shoot-out could determine who wins the game.

But mystery also surrounds who might take a spot-kick awarded in normal time for the Shrimpers with Barry Corr expected to step down after missing his last two efforts.

“I won’t be saying who is taking the penalties because that would be giving my team away,” said Brown.

“The players do extra stuff after training and we’ve got a couple of really good penalty takers.

“It’s obviously a bit different taking a penalty in front of one man and his dog in training to 40,000 screaming fans at Wembley.

“But it’s all about bottle and who fancies it most on the day.”
