ESSEX Eagles skipper Ryan ten Doeschate insists his side will be looking to put things right when they host Yorkshire in the quarter finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup this afternoon.

Essex were disappointingly beaten by Birmingham Bears in the last eight of the Twenty20 competition a fortnight ago.

And ten Doeschate is now keen to make amends.

“We want to put things right,” said the Dutch all-rounder.

“We’ve got to this stage of competitions before and have tried to treat it as just another game but that hasn’t really worked.

“We’ve approached things differently this time and hopefully that will pay off because we feel as though we’ve played a lot of good cricket without really having anything to show for it.

“And that’s something we want to change.”

Essex have impressed during the One-Day Cup so far this season, losing just two of their eight games in the group section.

But ten Doeschate now wants to take that consistent form into the knock out stages of the competition.

“We’ve been very solid in the one day format and we want that to carry on,” said the 35-year-old.

“The mood is very good, the preparation has been good and I think a lack of games in the build up has been a good thing.

“We don’t want to keep on getting into quarter-finals and missing out so we want things to change.

“We also have the incentive of a home draw in the semi-final but we can’t afford to look beyond playing Yorkshire just yet.”

The winner of this afternoon’s tie will host either Gloucestershire or Hampshire, whose game finished after the Echo went to print last night, at home in the final four.

And ten Doeschate would love to enjoy another big night of action in Chelmsford.

“We all enjoy playing at home and the atmosphere is always fantastic,” said the skipper.

“It does put us under a bit more pressure to perform but we’re all focused on making sure we play well.

“We know Yorkshire are a strong side with some good players but we’re just thinking about ourselves and playing the way we can.”

Essex will again be without all rounder Graham Napier (calf) while Alastair Cook has not been made available.
