JASON Williams bagged a hat-trick as Southend United’s under 21 team started the season with a 3-0 win at Gillingham this afternoon.
Williams bagged two goals in the first half before scoring a third after the break as Dale Brooks’ side triumphed in their first ever competitive outing.
And the youngster is now hoping to be able to force his way into first team recognition.
“It was good to get a hat-trick,” said Williams.
“Hopefully I can push on from this now and get into the manager’s eyesight to get into the first team squad.”
All three of Williams’ strikes against the Gills were created by midfielder Jack Bridge.
Southend United: Bexon, Jordan Williams, Matsuzaka, Coutts, Blackman, Bridge, Norman, Gard, Cotton, Williams, Kipriany.
