WESTCLIFF will be bidding for a third straight win when they host Wimbledon in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

After starting the season with eight successive defeats, Westcliff have triumphed in their last two outings.

But their director of rugby Nick Sigwart believes they will need to improve on last weekend’s performance against Eton Manor if they are continue their recent revival.

“Last week we had a good win on paper but as with our season so far, the truth isn't quite what is written in black and white,” explained Sigwart.

“We were significantly better than Manor but we had a catastrophic five minute lapse against the wind that nearly cost us the game.

“It is credit to the lads that they managed to regroup, keep their cool and score a lot of points to win the game.

“But we can’t afford any lapses this weekend.”

Westcliff remain second from bottom in the standings, below Wimbledon who are eighth.

And Sigwart is looking forward to what he believes is the first ever league meeting between the two teams.

“To my knowledge we have never played Wimbledon at league level so it will be good to change that,” said Sigwart.

“They have had some very strong results of late and have a much vaunted coaching team so we will not be taking them lightly.

“We will have to play well to beat them and we will have to do it for the full 80 minutes too.”

Westcliff will be without Randal Whitmore who misses out with a neck injury while captain Buster Reynolds and Jack Jones are also still absent.
