SOUTHEND United centre-back Adam Barrett will be bidding to keep his close friend Alex Revell quiet this weekend.

Revell, who spent two seasons with Barrett at the Shrimpers, is currently on loan with Wigan Athletic.

And Barrett knows the hard-working striker could well pose Blues problems this weekend.

“Alex is a different player now to what he was at Southend,” said the defender.

“We always knew he worked hard but he’s a real handful to play against.

“He chases everything and he’s gone on to have a really good career which has been shown by the moves he’s gone on to have.

“We will have to be mindful of him but he’s a good friend of mine so it will be good to see him and I’ll definitely be looking to kick him if I can.”

Barrett will be speaking to Revell in the build up to the game.

And he is certainly expecting a different afternoon to when the pair last teamed up.

“Before Alex left we were a fancy dress duo for the Christmas party one year,” said the 35-year-old.

“We were a couple of Disney characters and while I can’t remember exactly who it was I know they weren’t male.”

However, Revell is not the only threat from Wigan this weekend.

And Barrett is expecting a difficult afternoon in defence.

“Wigan are a good side with good players,” said the centre-back.

“It’s a tough game for us but it’s certainly one we can win.

“Everyone is going on about Wigan but they are only three points above us.

“We’re also going into this on the back of two very good results so we’re in good shape but we’re certainly not getting carried away.”
