SOUTHEND United’s on loan striker Jamar Loza confirmed his return to fitness by scoring in a behind closed doors game at Roots Hall this afternoon.

Loza, who is on loan from Norwich City, was among the goalscorers in a friendly Blues played against themselves.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown was delighted by the work-out which also saw the return of experienced forward Noel Hunt from a back problem.

“We mixed the teams up and got a lot from it in the end,” said Brown.

“We had under 21s playing, a few of the younger lads and several of the first team squad who needed to get a game so we got a lot from it.

“Getting a match in will have done them a lot of good and it was good for the younger lads who decisions need to be made on at the end of the season to experience another game at Roots Hall.”

However it was Loza, who was forced to miss Saturday’s game with Colchester United due to concussion, who caught the eye.

And the 21-year-old is now back in Brown’s thoughts for this Saturday’s visit to Scunthorpe United.

“Jamar was flying out there,” said the Blues boss.

“He’s over the concussion he suffered late on at Shrewsbury and he’s back in my thinking for Scunthorpe now.

“But so are quite a few of them after this game so I’ve got plenty of selection headaches once again.”

Loza was joined on the score-sheet in a game which ended 2-1 by on loan Arsenal midfielder Glen Kamara and youngster Freddie Gard.
