A THUNDERSLEY karate club has won three gold trophies and four bronze medals at the SRK Spring Open Karate Championships in Tilbury.

Eight members of Stock Shotokan Karate Club enjoyed great success, with nine-year-old Skye Taylor, as well as Grace Thompson and Adam Purkiss winning trophies.

More than 250 competitors competed in the competition with Chief Instructor Terry Irving labelling the standard as “very high”.

Skye won the Children’s Kyu grade Kata event in the Dan grade category and 12-year-old Lee Brittney came third.

Grace Thompson won the women’s Dan grade Kata event with Purkiss triumphing in the mens’ veterans Kata.

In their first outing as a team, Thompson, Purkiss and Samuel Campbell came third in the Adult Team Kata.

James Sanders and brothers Joshua and Zachariah Fazzani failed to medal although gained valuable competition experience.
