ADAM Flanagan says everyone at Concord Rangers is striving to record a third straight top 10 finish in the second tier of non-league football.

The Beach Boys manager has watched his side pick up just one point from the last four league matches, as Concord dropped out of contention for the National League South play-offs.

Defeats against struggling sides Bath City and Havant & Waterlooville and a draw at Hayes & Yeading have proved costly in Flanagan’s first season in charge, as they sit 11th ahead of this weekend’s encounter against Maidenhead United.

But Flanagan is hoping to end the season on a high and continue their excellent away record against Maidenhead tomorrow, a team who will also narrowly miss out on the top five.

“I would like for us to finish in the top 10 so for us to be able to do that we would need to win tomorrow,” he said. “It will be nice to finish above the teams locally to us and that is what we are all aiming for.

“I have been slightly disappointed with our performances of late because, with five games to go and the fixtures we had in front of us, I thought things could have been very exciting for us but we didn’t perform well in some crucial games so it wasn’t meant to be for us this season.”

It will be a test of one of the best home records against one of the strongest away records come tomorrow afternoon, with Maidenhead currently second in the table in terms of form on their own turf.

Concord have the fifth best away record and Flanagan expects it to be a good game as both teams look to put on a show in their final game of term.

“Maidenhead have one of the best home records in the league and we have a good away record so I am hoping it will be a good game,” he said. “Maidenhead have just missed out this season on the playoffs but they will want to keep their home form intact and use this to build a platform for next season.

“They have plenty of fire power up front (Ben Wright and Dave Tarpey have 29 goals between them this season) so I think the game will be determined by which team defends best against the forward players and I am hoping that this will be us.”
