SOUTHEND United striker Jason Williams is desperate to prove his worth to the Shrimpers.

The youngster has come off the bench in all five of Blues’ matches so far this season.

And Williams is eager to impress as he strives to secure himself a regular slot in Phil Brown’s side.

“I’ve enjoyed coming on in the games and getting more game time but I want to make sure that keeps on happening,” said Williams.

“Hopefully I can keep trying to make an impact and can get even more minutes.

“I’m obviously aiming for my first start and I want to show everybody what I can do and that I am able to compete in men’s professional football.”

Williams – who was a regular goal-getter in the Shrimpers’ under 21 side last season – came through the youth ranks at Roots Hall.

But he has not been entirely satisfied by his displays off the substitutes’ bench this term.

“My performances have been OK but I was bit disappointed with the Bristol Rovers game at the weekend if I’m honest,” said Williams.

“But I’m looking at it as a good thing now as the best way to learn is by making mistakes so after a while I wasn’t too disheartened.

“I just want to make sure I do better next time.”

Blues’ next chance to impress comes against Fleetwood Town at Roots Hall this weekend.

And Williams believes the Shrimpers’ season is now in full swing.

“It was a bit of a bumpy start at first but the win at Sheffield United gave everyone confidence and belief,” said the striker.

“To also come back from a goal down against Bristol Rovers showed the fighting spirit in the camp.”

Blues will now look to follow that up against Fleetwood at Roots Hall on Saturday.

And Williams would love to work his way onto the scoresheet against Uwe Rosler’s side.

“I’ve been dreaming about my first goal ever since I made my debut,” said the 20-year-old.

“I kept thinking to myself next time you get on the pitch make sure you have a shot.

“I think I went quite close to scoring at Sheffield United and hopefully next time it goes in. With a bit of luck that will be on Saturday.”
