CANVEY ISLAND V HARLOW

RUNDOWN: Canvey have shown themselves to be up for the fight this year, after a promising start to the new season.

The Gulls welcome new-boys Harlow Town, who have faltered after recording an excellent opening day win against Kingstonian.

But they did excellently to beat Wingate & Finchley 3-0 on Saturday to end a run of three straight defeats, including both of their away matches to date.

Canvey are unfortunate not to be occupying a loftier position in the league at this stage, as late goals and last Tuesday’s abandonment cost them a number of points.

But they put in quite a shift on Saturday to earn a terrific win.

WHAT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY?

Canvey Island hit a late, late winner to earn a terrific win at one of the league front-runners, Dulwich Hamlet, on Saturday.

Ryan O’Rawe hit a 90th minute winner at Champion Hill, as Canvey came back from conceding an equaliser to earn an excellent three points.

The Gulls took an early lead after 16 minutes, as Harrison Chatting nicked the ball of a Dulwich defender and slotted beyond the goalkeeper.

Gavin Tomlin equalised six minutes later with 1-1 the score at half-time.

Steve Sheehan headed over, with Dan Carr shooting wide at the other end but O’Rawe had the last laugh, heading home Joey May’s free-kick.
