SOUTHEND United have failed to complete a swoop for striker Marcus Haber ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Scunthorpe United.

Echosport understands the Shrimpers had been in talks with the Canadian international.

But a disagreement about the length of contract being offered led to a deal not being completed.

It is understood Blues were only willing to hand the 27-year-old a contract until January but he wanted a contract until at least the end of the season.

Haber began his career at Vancouver Whitecaps before joining West Bromwich Albion in 2010.

Loan spells at Exeter City, Vancouver Whitecaps and St Johnstone followed before he joined the Scottish club on a permanent basis in 2011.

Haber has also featured for Stevenage, Notts County and Crewe Alexandra, scoring 31 goals in 131 career starts.

The striker has also won 24 caps for his country.
