SOUTHEND Lawn Tennis Club have hosted their annual ‘opening of season’ Dennis Sorrell American tournament.
Traditionally most local tennis clubs virtually stopped playing over the winter months when play was not possible on real grass and clay courts.
And the opening of season tournament is a very long running event in Southend Lawn’s tennis calendar.
This year saw 27 members compete over six rounds for both the ladies and men’s titles.
This year the winning lady was Jo Redding and the men’s champion, after a very close finish, was David Barnes.
Both winners received engraved tankards, presented by Diana Sorrell.
