RYAN Peniston suffered a ‘tough day at the office’ in his final outing before heading to Wimbledon.

The Great Wakering-based 27-year-old was beaten in straight sets by Swiss star Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round of the Rothesay International in Eastbourne this afternoon.

And Peniston - who was beaten 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 18 minutes - admitted it was a difficult afternoon against the world number 83.

“It’s a tough defeat to take and it was a tough day at the office for me really,” Peniston told Echosport.

“Marc played well and didn’t give me many chances at all.

“But I have to look forward to Wimbledon now and I can’t dwell on this.”

Peniston reached the quarter-finals in Eastbourne last year, knocking out one of the world’s best players, Holger Rune, along the way.

However, there will be no heroics for the former Southend High School pupil in Sussex this summer and he will head to SW19 looking to regain top form.
