SOUTHEND Lawn Tennis Club have been boosted by the installation of four new top of the range courts.

The club, based off Broadclyst Gardens, have spent £80,000 on the upgrades after purchasing the freehold of the property.

And men’s club captain James Driscoll is now confident Southend Lawn can really start to kick on.

“The whole club are thrilled with the new facilities and there is a buzz around the place again,” said Driscoll.

“It felt like an eternity to get everything sorted as the upgrades were long overdue.

“We have had an enormously successful last 12 months purchasing the freehold and replacing the courts and lights.”

But Driscoll does not want the improvements to stop there.

“With new playing facilities sorted, our attention is now on upgrading our clubhouse and installation of a second surface on court five,” said Driscoll.

“The club has huge potential and I cannot wait to see it fulfilled.

“The committee and I are chomping at the bit to continue with the upgrades. “ The club continue to welcome new members but are keen to see more players, of all ages, coming along.

“Our membership numbers are increasing especially in the juniors with our head coach, Charlie King, doing a superb job,” said Driscoll.

“We have members who are in junior county squads, former top county juniors and not forgetting Ryan Peniston.

“But we welcome anyone interested in playing for the first time, anyone new to the area or looking for a change of scenery.

“There are also sponsorship opportunities available now too so anyone interested please get in touch.”

The club will also be hosting LTA tournaments for the first time in 2024.
