CONFUSION surrounds who will will make the Essex Senior League play-offs.

Great Wakering Rovers seemingly saw their hopes of a top five finish ended by this afternoon's esults.

But a statement from the league has now thrown doubt on what will happen next.

It read: "We are aware and investigating the allegations that Saffron Walden Town FC have played three fixtures after facing a county imposed suspension.

"All parties involved fighting for the play-off positions were notified before today's fixtures that this could potentially impact guaranteed playoff positions.

"A decision will be made in appropriate time, which could be subject to an FA appeal procedure.

"This could also impact the scheduled playoff dates, being the 1st May and the 4th May.

"An update will be sent out in due course."

On the pitch, Wakering won 3-0 at Coggeshall Town thanks to goals from Ben Search, Harry Talbot and Caiden Imbert-Thomas.

As things stand Wakering are sixth in the table, seven points behind fifth placed Sporting Bengal United with Rovers still having two games to play.

Bengal won 5-3 at White Ensign this afternoon despite Mechack Asuka scoring a hat-trick for the home-side who are now 15th.

Elsewhere, Hullbridge Sports lost 2-1 at Buckhurst Hill.

Oscar Onuorah netted for 12th placed Hullbridge.
