JASON Williams expects to be staying at Southend United next season.

The 20-year-old striker is currently in discussions about a new deal.

But he is keen to remain at Roots Hall and push for more appearances in the first team.

“We’re in discussions about the contract at the moment but I expect to be staying and still be with Southend next season,” said Williams, who came through Blues’ youth system.

“I want to stay but I want to try and push on to be in and around the first team more.

“I’ve had a few substitute appearances but I want to getting more chances and I’ll be working hard to try and make that happen.”

Williams appeared twice off the bench for the Shrimpers last season but was a regular goal-scorer in the under 21 team.

The youngster netted 11 times and then also impressed while on loan at National League South side Chelmsford City, scoring seven goals in 13 games.

But he now wants to show that form in League One.

“I’ve been with Southend for a long time now and the aim has always been to move up into the first team and score goals there,” said Williams.

“I’m confident I can do it but it’s important to have a good pre-season.

“I’m sure the manager will be looking to bring players in but we will all be given a chance in the friendlies.

“And if I can do well in them, score some goals and work hard in training then hopefully I’ll be given a chance.

“I don’t really want to be going out on loan again, I want to be playing for Southend.”

Williams also impressed on loan at Chelmsford during the latter stages of the 2014/15 season but he has yet to start a match for the Shrimpers.

However, whether or not he will joined by Noel Hunt and David Worrall at Roots Hall next season remains to be seen.

The duo have both been offered new deals to stay with Blues.

But Blues boss Phil Brown has yet to hear back from them.

“We’ve spoken to them and the ball is in their court now,” said Brown.

“If they want to stay then great.

“But if they don’t want to be here then we wish them all the best and we will bring in replacements.

“Where David is concerned I’m getting the vibe he wants to return back to the north of the country.

“But it’s up to him what happens now.”

Worrall chose not to comment on his future when contacted by Echosport.

However, he is believed to be attracting interest from elsewhere, including his former side Bury.
