THE Leigh & Westcliff Lawn Tennis Association’s winter finals day produced a number of entertaining encounters.

In the men’s singles, Rory Young beat Jack Farrell 6-3, 1-0 retired to claim his fourth L&W singles title and his first since the summer of 2019.

In the ladies singles, Westcliff Hard’s Georgie de Costa beat Elizabeth May 6-1, 6-0 to claim her first singles title.

In the men’s doubles final, Tom Millham & Charlie Kauders beat Matt Basham & Chris Gordon 6-3, 7-5.

The duo were runners up in a closely fought final last summer but returned to win the title this time around.

In the ladies doubles, Georgie De Costa & Robyn Tully beat Emily Watts & Amelia Farmer 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 as the new partnership secured victory and made it a double for De Costa.

In the mixed doubles, Bradley Hawkins & Brooke Caetano beat Arron Chandler & Chloe Jackson 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 In an extremely close final, it was the summer 2021 champions who stood firm to win their second L&W mixed doubles title.

In the men’s singles plate final, Will Street beat Jonathan Matthews 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The match was of a very high standard that would not have looked out of place in the regular men’s singles final.

But it was ultimately Wickford youngster Street who prevailed over his Westcliff Hard opponent. In the men’s doubles plate, Duncan Taylor & Darren Glover beat Tom Reader & Adam Dugmore 6-2, 6-2 as experience saw off youth in an Westcliff Lawn final.

In the ladies doubles final, Katie Higgs & Emma Chumley beat Brooke Caetano & Christine Mayes 6-3, 7-5 In the mixed doubles plate final, Tom Reader & Chrissie Christou beat Paul Moffat & Sarah Ball 6-2, 7-6 in another all Westcliff Lawn final.
